COOKING SKILLS
There’s no better way to learn cooking skills than with practice. Beyond PBJ will teach clients how to maintain safe and sanitary kitchen space, including the safest way to use a knife for slicing and dicing and how to properly use kitchen appliances. And we’ll also cook some delicious food. Emilia has created a database of her favorite recipes and is able to alter ingredients and instructions to meet the varied taste buds and skill levels of her clients. Cooking should be fun, and Beyond PBJ is here to help.
PORTION CONTROL AND MEAL PLANNING
Portion control can be a tricky concept for those learning to cook for themselves. Beyond PBJ will show clients not just the kinds of healthy foods to eat, but also the amount of those foods to eat at a sitting. This is done through meal planning and then pre-portioning and labeling foods for the week. Beyond PBJ will also guide clients in how to cook multiple items in one day and make those foods last through the week.
GRocery shopping
The grocery store can be an intimidating place, especially for those sensitive to a variety of sights, smells, and sounds. Let Beyond PBJ help you to make an organized grocery list, navigate the store to find what ingredients you need, and ease anxieties about the grocery store experience. Field trips to the grocery are a wonderful method to teach clients how to properly pick produce and meat, evaluate prices, and interact with grocery store employees.
dinner parties
Some clients want to plan and host a special meal for their family or friends — whether it’s a birthday, holiday, or just for fun. Beyond PBJ offers a short-term package where we plan the menu, grocery shop, and prep the meal together. It's a great way to build real-world skills, spark creativity, and create a meaningful moment. Neurodivergent and neurotypical kids alike have loved this experience.
SMART SPENDING
Eating healthy at home doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, it is much more cost effective than eating at restaurants. Beyond PBJ teaches clients to budget by using inexpensive, fresh ingredients found at any local grocery store.
